Local Lodge 774 Women’s / Community Service Committee, together with TEAM Kyle
is having an Aluminum Drive thru October.
Please help us help Kyle with his expenses.

Son of Mark Hicks from Dept. 586

Kyle is 17 and is the size of a 7 year old. He was born with a SEVERE skin disease called EPIDERMOLYSIS BULLOSA; it is very painful and usually ends in death by the age of 30. Until now there was no cure.  Now there is a chance at a MIRACLE CURE but Kyle needs our help to pay for this very expensive Bone Marrow Transplant.
The cost exceeds $500,000; and his insurance will not cover it.

All forms of Aluminum can be either dropped off at the Machinist Union at 3830 So. Meridian (Please deliver to the back by the Garage) or at the Union office at W-7. We ask that you don't bring any alcoholic beverage cans on Cessna property.

Feel free to visit Kyle’s web site at http://www.cotaforkyleh.com and read more about this wonderful young man and his story. It will break your heart. He has a real zest for life and needs your help to live it to the fullest. So please dig deep and help out a fellow Cessna employee in the quest to help his son.

THANKS TO ALL

A fellow Cessnan in need: Zach Courter
Zach Courter (Cessna Employee - D152) is in need of your support to help with travel, medical and personal expenses until he can return to work, from this soon to be 6th heart surgery to be performed at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota the week of October 27. Zach was born with 5 very complex and rare, major heart defects. He has had 5 open heart surgeries, 3 of which have been performed at the Mayo Clinic and he now faces this 6th for replacement of the pulmonary valve.
A Cessna donation account has been set up in Zach's name at CECU
"The Zach Courter Fund"

A fellow Cessnan in need: Donna Kitterman
Donna Kitterman, an employee on 2nd shift in Department 135, is on a waiting list for a liver transplant. In order for her to receive the transplant she has to have the funds immediately available if they call. Unfortunately, she is short that amount. Donna has exhausted all sick leave and vacation with her condition so if she gets the call she will also need funds to financially support herself while not receiving her much needed income. If you would like to help, please send your donations to the Cessna Credit Union on behalf of the Donna Kitterman Fund.
If you have any questions please contact
Danielle Gabor on 1st shift at 517-7735 or
Tammy Hourigan on 2nd shift at 517-6455.
Your help is greatly appreciated!

Words from your Plant Chairpersons

Charley Cowell - Pawnee - 1st shift
Brothers and Sisters of Local Lodge 774,
The holidays are approaching once again, so remember that if you miss the day before or the day after, have a doctors excuse to qualify for your holiday pay. Also do not use P.S.L. in conjunction with vacation due to the arbitration ruling we received some time back. The cost of living is being calculated based off the months of March April and May. We should have the results in the near future this takes effect in July. We will also be receiving a four percent general wage increase in September of this year, just something to look forward to. Hope everyone has a safe and happy Holiday and we will continue to grow the membership of local lodge 774. I would also like to thank everyone who supported me in the recent elections giving me the opportunity to represent the members for another term.
Yours truly
Charlie Cowell
1st shift Plant Chair
Pawnee, Prospect, 21st and Kessler

Stephen Elder - Pawnee - 2nd shift
I would like to express my deepest appreciation for those of you who gave me your support in recent elections. I want everyone to know that I will continue to do my best to support you and the contract; I take this honor very seriously and will continue to do so. I am also proud of how clean the campaigns were.
We all know that the hot weather is here, remember to drink plenty of fluids. Do not over exert yourself in the sun or heat. Stay calm, we seem to have more problems with tempers flaring in the heat. I'm sure we can all make it through this summer if we just think ahead, be safe and use good common sense.
Talk to you later.
Stephen Elder

Aguie Rios - Mid Continent - 1st shift

Have a happy fourth and be safe.

Why Unions are in Politics
Unions over the years have won major legislative battles that have improved the lives of you and your family. You probably take these important benefits for granted, and may have no idea of the long and often bitter struggle it took to win them.
To name a few examples:
You may find it hard to believe that until the mid-1930’s workers who were lucky enough to have a full time job were working 60 hours a week, a half-day on Saturday with no premium pay for overtime. There was no Federal minimum wage law, so that employers, in the absence of a Union, were able to pay their workers a bare wage. Employers were free to use child labor, even in the coal mines.
In the 1880’s the Unions fought to establish the eight-hour workday, even to the point of bloody strikes, but were largely unsuccessful because of the fierce opposition from employers. According to big business it would case an epidemic of business shutdowns and massive unemployment. The newspapers of that day said it would casue the workers to be idle with drunkenness and more crime. The wage and hour act was established with an 8-hour workday and 40-hour workweek. The Act also forbade the labor of children under 16. Contrary to their belief the economy didn’t collapse because of the 8-hour workday in fact productivity increased. Although the law has been in effect for six decades, the nation’s corporations still regularly mount campaigns to weaken it.
Whether the issue is public school systems, minimum wage laws, social security, Medicare, pensions, healthcare, the right to organize and join a Union, health and safety, FMLA laws, every law that goes before the House and Senate affects our members lives and their families.
Here’s where you fit into this picture.
Make sure everyone in your family is registered to vote.
Get involved in your Union’s political action programs.
Make voluntary financial donations, whatever you can afford.
On Election Day, help your Union get out the vote.
Your best bet is to join with millions of other working people to…
SPEAK UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS!!!

2008 District 70 Car and Bike show
If you didn't make it out, here are some pictures of the show.

Thanks to your caring and generosity, Local Lodge 774 collected $1357.09 to give to the family of Jeff Hart after his tragic death.
Per instructions from LL733, Tammy, Aguie and Martin took the check to the Watson Funeral Home to give to the family.

Show your support for Boeing and your outrage at our government for awarding the Tanker contract to Airbus by going to Todd Tiharts web site and telling them what you think!
